I am thinking about using cloth diapers instead of disposable ones. I'm a stay at home mom. Money is pretty tight and we are trying to cut corners EVERYWHERE. So please any advice with be appreciated. Thank you. can i prep my bumgenius organics with my already prepped bumgenius organics? I bought my diapers in pieces, 8 here, 3 there, and so on.... I was running out of my disposables, and didnt want to buy more, so i had to prep them to start using them... and its been downhill ever since... I LOVE my bumgenius organics, and am soooo happy about making the switch to cd. BUT, you have to wash them 6-10 times to get them fully prepped, and My water bill is going to be so high, i am actually SCARED to get it. i have one more coming tomorrow, then 5 on friday, and then another 10 the following week. ( i am cloth diapering 2 children). I need to prep these because at the amount i have now, i am washing every night.... which is also not good for my water bill. ( hence, why i want to finally get all of them here and prepped so i dont have to wash every night). My question is, instead of washing the one or the 5 alone to prep, can i just throw them in with my other dipes? and them put it to the side until the next night and throw it in the wash again until its prepped? or is that bad? Im really having a hard time justifying 6 washes for one or 5 diapers. i really am very afraid of that water bill as it is! lol Can i prep my bumgenius organics with my already prepped bumgenius organics? Im reposting this to get a better opinion from everyone I took in a renter in my 2 bedroom home last year. Times were tough for me and I needed a renter. They were back then a pregnant couple who a few months later gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Their situation is a sad one being only 19 and all and little income to support themselves. At that time the economy was hard and had to lower the rent and sweeten some of the amenities for the house to even get a renter in. I felt sorry for them since not a lot of renters take in young parents. They signed the papers and I explained to them the house rules which were pretty good as they do have access to the Living room and kitchen and shared utilities with as I said earlier a discount on the rent. I specifically remembered she promised that she was going to be clean around the house as she call it her ‘nesting instincts” I actually do prefer renting to single parents and older couples since my experience in the past is that they are responsible with rent pay and cleanliness. Unfortunately, as nice as they are, I am having issue with the cleanliness of the house. The baby now is walking hand broke a lamp which nearly hit her on the head, and there’s the matter of the kitchen mess they don't clean up. They also leave a pile of dishes on the sink for hours/or a whole day and leave the house, so sometime I wash the dishes to make way for my own. The last two issues is a major sanitary concern for me. I have a top washer which we do all the laundry except for my bed sheets which I do go to a laundrymat for. Being as I am not always at home due to work, I do my wash 1-2x a week mostly at night, leaving my female roommate the house all to herself with the baby. (her husband works on days-nights) This weekend while I was home, I have been noticing white cloths hanging on the clothesline, it was until I saw my roommate change diapers at my living room carpet that I realized that the baby was using cloth diapers/disposable. Note that when she was changing her, this was on top of my carpet. No padding or cover at all. That night I realized that she has been washing SOILED diapers in our washing machine, same where I wash my delicates. She admitted this to me this morning but explained that since she uses bleach, it kills off any bacteria insisting that her method is safe. And that she could not afford disposable diapers or even do laundry mat. I am not sure if she even cleans out the diapers of the poo or pee but I am sure she throws the soaked cloth diapers the with the pee. No wonder she does laundry as early as 7 AM in the morning everyday About the mom: shes about 19-20 ish. Really sweet, really nice. however she has this whole hollistic approach to motherhood and parenting. Things she reads off youtube and the internet for advice and would even try to suggest to me. I hate to say the term but she does act like a know it all sometimes. She receives WIC which is good for her but I found out that it does not cover the diaper expenses I still find it unsanitary. My friends also who visited recently noted a foul scent (poop) in my living room. I probably could not detect it due to the fact I got used to it so much. But I will admit that there is always a mess when i come home, lately those cloth diapers on the living room floor or couch. I am thinking of just giving her a Laundry card ( we have a laundrymat that has a rechargeable laundry card) to do her laundry I do not want to be a mean landlord and have them running away oneday leaving me without a renter. Im am unsure how to be firm with them. The mother is quite stubborn too. Like one time her baby broke the living room floor lamp, she barely apologized explaining that babies are babies and would fix my tall lamp with glue after I said she should replace it since the broken lamp will be a fire hazard. So for now she only replaced the lamp with hers. That I really did reminded her of the house rules and the fire hazard safety since she suggested gluing the lamp support instead. I understand that given the situation with them that they do have a limited budget for diapers and all but how can I talk to them about the diaper washing issue. Please help with how I should address the situation. Thank you, serious answers only and please no haters Problem with a roommate washing re-usable diapers on my top washer? I am considering it, although I am having some trouble convincing my husband (and myself) that it will really be cheaper in the long run. When we factor in the initial cost of the diapers (about 200 for 10-12 of one size) with the cost of the water to wash daily, the detergent which IS expensive, and the disposables that I will still have to buy occasionally for day-care and sitters since they no nothing about cloth diapers... not to mention the extra effort and energy of cleaning up leaks and washing with another child to care for... My husband has vetoed the idea... The covers and the cloth diapers and the liners can add up to be a lot of cost and can be hard to fit on a newborn especially. Now, I have read reviews on several brands of all in one cloth diapers- bumgenious, kushies, bumkins... the reviews are mixed and many say that leaks are an issue, but still seem happy... I am not sure if it will REALLY be cheaper or average out the same in the long run. I do believe that with the liniency that i give them they pretty have a good deal. they even have my TV and ps2 to use in their bedroom
Cloth Diapering? Is it REALLY worth it? What do you think?
