How much money should I charge to babysit an infant child in my home?
My brother has a baby on the way and he and his wife both plan to keep working after the baby is born. I have a 1 year old daughter of my own, and I am a stay at home Mom. My brother's wife is going to go back to work when their baby is 3 months old, and they want me to watch their baby while she's working. Of course, I am delighted to do it. I just don't know how much I should charge them. They're family, so I don't want to take advantage of them and charge them too much. But I do think that I should get paid something, since I'm watching their baby while they're gone to work and making money. I was thinking that maybe I would ask for $20 a day. Is that too much? Too little? I will only be watching her three days a week from about 6:00 am until 5:00 pm. I would appreciate any feedback that anyone can give me on this subject.

Why do you think most mothers choose formula over breast milk?
I was doing some research into breastfeeding and stumbled upon this: In 1994, after years of stalling by Republican administrations that opposed it, the United States joined every other developed nation in the world as a signatory to the WHO Code, an international agreement that, among other things, calls for an end to formula promotion and giveaways through the health-care system and includes a clause stating that no financial or material inducements should be offered by [infant formula] manufacturers or distributors to health workers, or members of their families, nor should these be accepted. Despite the WHO Code, virtually all hospitals in the United States offering maternity services -- as well as the majority of individual obstetricians and pediatricians -- continue to provide massive free advertising from the huge pharmaceutical companies that produce and market formula in the United States. Such promotional material comes in the form of formula giveaways, patient educational literature produced by the formula companies and even free baby equipment such as diaper bags. The article went on to say: American hospitals have largely shrugged off the idea that accepting free formula and large cash donations in return for a particular formula company's right to market directly to its patients represents an ethical problem. Around the world, thousands of hospitals have become certified by the World Health Organization as Baby-Friendly by agreeing to aggressively and accurately promote breast-feeding and to end the practice of allowing infant-formula companies to offer freebies to personnel or patients. In the United States, however, fewer than 20 hospitals and birthing centers have received the Baby-Friendly designation. Do you feel that the reason so many women opt to formula feed is because the formula companies have most hospitals and doctors in their pocket? http://www.salon.com/life/feature/1999/07/20/formula2 The article is a little old, but I just want some opinions on it. Another question: Did the hospital you delivered at offer to give you formula to go home with? What brand of formula did they offer? Rae's Momma: Don't be so defensive. I didn't say anything derogatory about formula feeding mommies. I was just wanting some opinions on that article.

Help Choosing Fuel Effecient SUV?
I currently have a brand new Mazda 3 and I live in las Vegas NV. I love the car its amazing, but, at times i really have to push on the gas petal to make it go over 45 fast to merge with traffic... Then the A/C unit does not blow out actual cold Air until my car has gone over 60mph.. which is sad because most of the time the fastest i go is 45. So i need a change because i have a baby on the way, and a crappy A/C in 110 will cause heat stroke to an infant. So I need to trade the car in for a more practical family SUV. I Want an SUV that can seat 5 comfortably. Has plenty of room in the back area for groceries and possibly larger items, because my husband and i do not have a truck.. Must have's: 1. Great Gas Milage, anything under 20mpg in town i will not consider. (would love a hybrid) 2. Great A/C unit that gets cold almost instantly 3. Ability to go fast on a Dime 4. Nice storage Area in back 5. Not to high from the ground, this way i can get my infant in and out, i am only 5'2 My other things i am looking for i can reseach myself after i get some great ideas from you guys. :) I love the New Honda CRV, but the gas milage is horrible :( Looking forward to your answers! P.S. something that MSRP is 25k or less.. this way i can talk them down to 20k :)

Would you read this? (First paragraph or two included) ?
It was so strange, being there again. There were no houses at all now, only trees on either side of the narrow road. They grew so wild they formed a leafy ceiling above us, gold and orange and burnt umber. I just kept staring out the window at everything, willing myself to remember some of it, but I couldn’t. Asha, my sister, was sleeping in the back seat, her head resting on my jumper and her blonde curls sticking damply to her face. Of course, for her this was just another place, no different to the countless other homes we’ve had. She doesn’t remember that this was our first home, the place where we were born. We had to move away from here when I was eight and she was only a few months old and still being wheeled around in a pram. She was too little to notice when Dad disappeared. I remembered, though, and I knew that was exactly what Mam was thinking while she drove. She was clutching the wheel so hard her knuckles were white and she hadn’t spoken once in the three hours of driving since the airport. That suited me fine; I had a lot to think about. I’d been looking through old photos before I came here; pictures of my first communion which I’d made just before I was whisked away. Pictures of my class in junior infants. Ordinary pictures of mam and dad at home. A far as I could tell, the village looked the same now as it had when I was eight. Rows of pretty terraced houses in uninspiring shades of pink of cream, man old church that watched over everything like a kindly grey giant, and the two schools, right across from each other. I wasn’t very nervous until then- but seeing my very first primary school again right there in front of me…it was surreal, almost. Like I’d come around in a full circle and now here I was, back where I’d started when everything was normal and Dad was there every day, and we had no reason to believe that we wouldn’t be here all our lives. Funny how everything can change in a heartbeat.

How great would America be without it`s bloated War Industry?
Take a look at Japan; smaller than California, over half the population, no natural resources, no War Industry, and they are #2. In fact, taking into consideration that almost every industrial nation ranks better than the States in health care, preventable diseases, infant mortality rate, education, infrastructure, social benefits, standard of living, class disparity, and crime what exactly is it that makes the States so great It`s TV and War, isn`t it? It`s gotta be cause you guys invest so much of your time and energy into both.

Parents
I am a 13 year old and I am becoming a babysitter this summer. I've babysat my younger sister for years and I also babysat my friend's sister who is a 4 year old. I've taken the Red Cross Babysitting Course. I know Infant, Child and Adult CPR and all the basics about First Aid. I am very safety conscious and I can handle emergencies in a calm way. The child's safety is my first priority. I am responsible, dependable and trustworthy, I am a great role model for children and while on the job I am always professional and I can show leadership. I am volunteering in a Day Camp and I gain so much experience from this. I am also part of the Leadership Core and Volunteer Committee at my school and part of our job is handling and caring for kids. I am extremely fun! Your kids will be so much happy with my fun-filled activities but at the same time I also give discipline and enforce the rules. I can provide a resume and reference letter and we would have an interview. For those people that are all about safety (which I appreciate) and would say they would only hire people they know, just pretend that I am your neighbour or something! And for those that think I am too young, many people would agree that I am as mature and responsible as a 16 year old. So, speak up, would you hire me?

Could someone please rate/critique my poem?
Broken Lullaby By: Adam M. Snow Awaken the children, let them see, all agony's within, and perhaps just maybe, they would lose all hope, all their dreams, all feelings would cope, not the moon's shattered beams. Awaken the infant, the one who's mild, as the moon once crescent, now sings to that child. All is lost, so it seems, like floods of life in frost, living on shattered dreams. Sing a broken tune, so death may come, all mourns the moon, and all becomes numb. Sing this broken lullaby, so all may hear, the last tear becomes dry, as morrow comes near. Sing and awaken all, let them see, how easy it is to fall, and just let them be, so they may sleep, and fix all dreams, for they're in deep, as they ride moonlight's beams.

why would god want to kill babies in the old testament and silence women in the new testament?
But of the cities ... which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth. Kill the old men and women, the sick and the dying, the blind and the lame, pregnant mothers, nursing mothers, infants, toddlers, and babies. Deuteronomy 20:16 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. I Corinthians ch 14 vs 34,35 christians attempt to defend the indefensible immorality of the texts on which your faith is based...thou shall not commit murder my butt.. :)

Hi my sister (25) and I (22) are planning to go to Cancun over the Christmas break. She won't be in University and my son will JUST still be an infant. Anyhow. Does anyone know of some sanitary, safe and affordable hotels/hostels/apartments/suites etc in Cancun. I speak Spanish very well, so no English required. Hoping to pay around $20 a night. Just 1 bedroom - 2 beds and ideally with a private bathroom. We are on a tight budget, but don't want to stay in a dump either. THANK YOU :) p.s our dates (roughly) are Dec 14th - Jan 07th.
